About Us

Beyond the Blue Box is one of Canada's longest standing and most successful community-based waste reduction and reuse centres.

Beyond the Blue Box is a registered Charity, founded in 1992, with the twin objectives of diverting waste and offering developmentally disabled individuals volunteer and employment opportunities. BBB has blossomed into an environmental success story and surpassed every criterion its founders set.
For 29 years, it has been accepting donations of reusable items from the community and diverting them from Northumberland County landfill sites. It does this by operating two bustling stores on Covert Street in Cobourg.
With the help of community volunteers, our not-for-profit operation collects, sorts and resells donated items for prices that are just enough to cover operating costs.
Today, more than 1.5 million pounds of waste is diverted from our landfills every year and
100% of all proceeds stay in our community!

In close co-operation with the Community Living West Northumberland, we have had over 60 participants volunteer in our work environment.

We currently have opportunities for High School students to complete their 40-hours of Community Service at our Covert Street location.

Beyond the Blue Box provides two- $1,000.00 scholarships yearly to residents of Northumberland County entering the Environmental field, or Developmental Social Service.

As always, BBB continues to help those in need, working with local agencies for a better community.
